This is my Minmi M-986 1.8" 2GB MP4 Player which is dead now

Front Back CD

I followed the Dead Player Recovery Guide but i did not know which firmware to upgrade that will bring my player to life so i tried 2-3 firmwares some of then succeeded but the dump file that i downloaded could not bring my players display ultimately now my player's Display panel has completely gone blank as seen in the picture

now even the player has stopped detecting in the computer its being detected as a Flash Drive which on formatting shows some wield folders and files in it

Problematic Situations screen shots

i tried to use s1fwx that too failed
After 2 days of Research i found out that the Firmware for my player was "Full Version 9.0.50 - 1.8 LCD"
Menu Screen Shots

I could not find any Dump file that could fit in.... can some one please upload a same version dump file so that i can fix my mp4 player

The other problem still remains ...
The device being detected incorrectly
thought i have the drivers installed and was being detected earlier without any problems

it not getting formatted using any utility

can some one please suggest how to fix these problem

diborane , firstly you'll need to flash in a compatible firmware before the player's removable drive would appear in explorer.

Even if the MP3 Utilities Upgrade Tool shows Success, it only means that the firmware has been flashed into the chip. It does not mean that the firmware is fully working with your player.

It is not possible to dump the v9.0.48 as the extraction tool only supports upto v9.0.43 at the moment.

S1fwx could not be used as you have already wiped out the original firmware with an incompatible one. Besides, it could only support upto v9.0.43, so you can't extract a working dump anyway.

So what you'll need to do is try All the v9.0.xx series firmwares until you get a working one.

Good luck.

I have found the compatible Firmware .bin file its 9.0.50 that was available here but i do not have the dump file for that

and also i would like to mention that i have got my MP4 Player detected by Windows XP which earlier was being detected as USB Flash Drive
I will try to post a small Tut for that too

Now the problem remains that when i am using MP3 Upgrade Tool to flash up the firmware the message shown is the earlier post how can i fix that problem.

even with lower firmware versions the error remains same

How to i erase the flash and then flash it with the original 9.0.50 FW

is there a way to do that
coz whenever i am trying to upgrade the firmware the updating makes my Minmi 986 reboot and hence an error message is displayed

if there is some work around then probably i will be up and running with my MP4 Player

How do i remove the Firmware that i accidentally installed not being helpful usning various tools but to no success

9.0.43 is my surrent FW which i accidentally installed
9.0.51 is the FW that i wanted to install as its the correct one

Erasing The flash memory using short circuiting some chips i can do that but do not know which one

some help would be greatly appreciated

diborane , the version number are not accurate. As manufacturers find cheaper hardware components, they change the firmware to suit the hardware. However, they do not change the version number at the same time. They would just use back the same version number even with perhaps 50 different variants in hardware.

What i do suggest is that you do not just concentrate purely on v9.0.51, as the v9.0.43 or v9.0.48 might also work on your player.

You don't need to erase the firmware, as flashing a new firmware would erase the previous firmware.

i have tried that but when i try to flash any other firmware my computer Windows XP Professional SP2 just reboot i have tried about 6-7 versions of MP3 Player Tools version 1.12 - 4.15 all show the same result they all just reboot my PC as well as the usb MP4 Player i tried flashing with Product Tool but that too didn't work the computer does not reboot with it but the player reboots and this keeps on happening in a looping sequence but the firmware is not flashed

so what can any one suggest i am ready to try

i was also wondering if instead of Firmwares is there a possibility that i could install some light weight OS like linux if at all its available just for basic functionality such as mp3/MP4 playing

Hello

3 days already I trying to recover my dead player. What is the actual Step to Recover it?

a) ADFU (HS) blah blah
b) Mp3 Ultilities Tools 4.05 then "It say Recover State...."
c) So I should flash a 9.048/9.049/9.050.fw into it rite? (9.043 or lower not working)
d) Then restart the player and wait 30 secs...example..if i flash a 9.048.fw into it? then i should flash a dump.bin for 9.048? where to get those DUMP???how to flash it? same method? but without ADFU coz it will turn into Removable Disk... ?

Please provide me the Firmware & Dump for the above player too!!! pls

To Treadstarter...pls let me know if u fix urs!

Hello, try the firmware I've uploaded for rocky saytes 2091n, my mp4 like yours;
http://www.mympxplayer.org/mp4-saytes-white-screen-looking-for-firmware-atj2091n-vt6908.html
my last firmware was :
ACT209X_S7X
2006/10/08
9.0.48
2006/9/12
but developer sent me this firmware and insists that this is the good one, it doesn't work to me, gives me white screen, and if I try to open it with
Mp3 player product tools or s1res.exe gives me an error... developer sent me the file two times so, I'm sure it should be correct.
**I don't have cd from mp4 have you look inside maybe there's one firmware..... and we got a solution!!!!
If you get luck say it to me, thanks... Shocked
