PhantomX,

Thanks for sharing this.
Have you placed negative feedback for that seller?

I think if we're going to really warn people, it's best to make sure we place NEGATIVE FEEDBACK. This puts emphasis on the fact.

If you're scared they'll place negative feedback back, can you not contact eBay and ask them to remove it as it was unfair feedback? I know we can on NZ's auction site: TradeMe.co.nz. This is to stop people firing negative feedback at you for no reason but because you play negative feedback on theirs.

Tried this, they give negative in return, appeals to eBay USELESS!! Beware people!

Unfortunately, eBay does not do anything to unfair feedback. Such feedbacks does not fall under their removal policy which is outlined Here.

So pretty much if you give a negative to a scam seller, you'll most probably receive a negative too. And you can't do anything about it.

However, there is SquareTrade which is an online mediator. You can file your unfair feedback case there and they will try to resolve it. If it rules out in your favour, SquareTrade has the authority to request eBay to remove the negative feedback on you.
But everything comes with a price, it costs about $20 to be a member before they will take on your case.

Thanks zac, I suspected as much, but how do they get it to show up in Windows as 4GB? Confused

Thanks for the info lattesurf, but am going to 'let it go' now, before I become all bitter and twisted Laughing

Life has taken on a whole new meaning since I decided, no more eBaying! Wink

Hi Hazel,

It is unfortunately very easy to make these players seem more than they are. You can "fix" the MBR (Master Boot Record) of a device to make it look bigger, but in these cases they have a "dodgy" version of an FDISK type utility which allows them to create a partition that is false. All that happens is when the device goes over the actual capacity it either wraps round to the start corrupting everything, or just plain gets lost in the ether. Either way, the sellers that do this should be strung up....

Thanks for the explanation dkjab, at least I now know how to check the REAL capacity, but as I say, I will not be risking getting these things from eBay anymore, they have been NO help to me whatsoever! Some might say that I was a mug getting caught 3 times in the first place Embarassed . . . but NO MORE!! Evil or Very Mad

Thanks to everyone on here who has helped me. xx

OMG, will think of myself as lucky compared to your poor friend - although nobody should count themselves LUCKY to get what they paid for!! Evil or Very Mad

They listed them as 30GB harddrives, but the prices seems too good to be true. i'm sure a 30GB mini-harddrive costs much more than that.

Hi,
would like to report midalap as another seller of hacked players. After some emails they finally admitted that their players are dodgy. Here the quote:
Quote: › sorry to send wrong memory player

we refund 8.00GBP to u
and u withdraw bad feedback for us .do u agree?

Obviously, I'll not take my feedback back.

Add e-britain to the Blacklist!

Received an advertised '4GB', which after formatting became a 1GB player.

Their eBay store:
http://stores.ebay.com/Electronics-Britain

I can confirm e-britain is selling 1GB as 4GB.

Have e-mailed some of their other customers,
seems none have real 4GB.
I have expressed my concerns to e-britain, they
offered 5GBP refund seemingly to shut me up.
I accepted but told them I was going to give -ve
and they tried to negotiate further but refused to change the faulty description (which also wrongly states
from UK not HK).
e-bay customer support suggested filing paypal claim,
but this involves being willing to send it back.
I gave negative feedback, but it is swamped by
positives from people that do a functionality only
test, and/or are convinced by the 4GB sticker
and explorer/units own report. They'll get corrupt
files one day when they fill memory past 961MB.
Need repartitioning/low level format using RDiskUtility.

I just found this site, lol was sent here by the BLown-z people on ebay to get the AMV convertor and after reading this stuff I checked my player and it too is just 1gb instead a 4gb player. Evil or Very Mad
I am so pissed I can't see straight, I had all kind of problems trying to get the software to download files into the player,so I did what you all reccomended and reformated it. Ended up being a 1gb player not a 4gb.

Sent them a refund or else type of letter and one to ebay for fraud .

They may not which ones are hacked themselves, allthough I doubt it!

Price has to tell you something when buying these.
Good thing i paid with Paypal and credit card.. I may actually see a refund.

Crap this was going to be for the wife for Christmas too Crying or Very sad

Live and Learn Rolling Eyes
Thanks Guys
Gary

E-britain is selling hacked mp3 players on ebay. I bought one and upon arrival it looked good but when loading music on it the files and file system corrupts. You end up with the music you put on it copying over files making them corrupt. The 4gb mp3 players are in reality 512mb. Upon contacting E-britain he will tell you to simply format it. You could do this over and over with the same result. I have opened a dispute thru ebay and paypal. I suggest you do the same if this seller has tried to con you too.

Thanks, Hooperjjoop. I am another one of E-BRITAIN's con-victims. I bought a 4GB player just a moment ago and now I am well worried... sigh.
