Hi,
I got sent the below MP4 player when I signed up to some credit card deal, but I'm not sure what type it is. I know it only plays MTV files, has 1GB memory, and the chip inside is marked '29f8g08maa' but I think this is the memory. The firmware says its v 01.30.10, and the chip says 01. Apart fromt hat I have no other information, no branding or manufacture info. It only came with an 8cm CD with some MP4/MTV conversion software on.
I tried using the 'S1fwx tool' and the 'MP3 Player Update Tool' that comes with AMV Convert Tool 3.68', but neither find the device, and just say 'no device detected' even though the MP4 player is plugged in and I can browse the drive (E: ) in 'My Computer'.

Hi bjblackmore,
If you said it only plays MTV then that tells me it's an Actions chipset player. However the firmware version numbers you gave me isn't in the same format as Actions chipset firmware.
Do you still have the sample .MTV video still? If you do, can you upload it to the site so we can take a look at it? I wonder if it's the newer .MTV format instead?
If you can, do what lolita suggested and open your player's casing and post the board ID and plate numbers so for a better identification. |

No newer Actions players use MTV. It is ALi. |

Sorry its taken a while to post these pics. For some reason everytime I try and reply, my Symantec Internet Security says its blocking an attack. If I disable it, IE seems to forward to some porn web site. Any chance someone has injected some dodgy code into the site?
Anyway, here are the pics, chipset seems to be marked as an ALi as you said, although the type says M7101A:

Either the chip is mismarked, the Internet is lying, or there's an Actions chip on the other side
Because M7101 is a "Power Management Unit" and not an MP3/4 SoC.
But now you know your player is an ALi-based unit. |

sndestroy I love my MPx player

If you look carefully at the 3rd photo, it's no doubt that the chip says M7101A indeed...
lolita, take a look at this: M7101 based-player, and another one
Maybe it's a not-so-well documented media SoC... |

I was looking for the exact same information - except I do not have this same player. I just got an MP4 watch - model number HS868-A ( Product Details) and it shows 01.30.10 as the firmware and 01 for the "Chip:". It also only plays .mtv files. I am wondering if it is the same chip set - the info page for mine says "Korea SKYLARK solution" |

Skylark-A and Skylark-II are related to the NX585x series and they're all manufactured by NEXIADEVICE (http://www.nxdevice.com/). Looking at the datasheets, they all use a common 8051 MCU core, and so do ALi's M566x SoCs.
It seems they might have a great commonality if even the firmware info is in the same format... |
