That's right, a 16GB MP4 Player 2.8" LCD with touch screen for only $55.00. Thanks to forum user Everso, I discovered this cool player.
I know people will say, you get what you pay for, but this player is great for the money. Even though updating firmware might kill the poor player, I do plan on trying to add more games to it. It should be able to play Rockchip games.
In case your wondering, I will be ordering the $30 1GB (I have no need for 16GB). One of my main use's for it will be recording radio. |

games for the old rockchips wont work on these touch screens, only tetris can be on by default, no other games wotk on this type and as for recording radio ... results are not good, but they do a basic job |

Does anyone know of a way (program?) that backs-up firmware? That way I could tinker with it, and in case something happens, I could restore it. |

not for that player
this has ben a holy grail for these player and is the reason so many get broken
no way to back up
no way to find correct firmware that wwill work
if you want a player to mess with go with a newer rockchip player that DOES allow firmware backups, but games have to be preinstalled , cant add them in, or go for the onda vx525 that can player flash games then you can download them from the internet and have thousednds at you disposal
OR
www.mp4nation.net are releasing a basic verison of the vx525 based ont he same FLASH based UI that also player flash games
see video here
http://mp4nation.net/catalog/index.php?main_page=page&id=4
will be on sale soon but can not be backed up or modded in any way but who nees it, it has the ability to play SWF games so as many as you want |

please do not buy one of those mentioned
if you want 16gb and you want cheap then look at these as they use a more up to date system, firmwre can be backed up for when the player dies, thay are much better at handling video and audio
they use a more uptodate processor and these rockchip player do not have hacked memory
look at these for up to date player, cheap and high memory
http://www.tinydeal.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_93
do not totally listen to the statement of conversion free, but they are 1000 times better than the one originally listed in the thread |

this happened in the ipod nano clones based on the actions chip set player and was a massive ebay scam, search the forums and ebay and you will see planty on it
but players made using rockchips and others were not hacked and can be believed in their stated size
the hack was basically making the player report that it had more memory than it actually did, it even fooled windows, but as soon as you tried to add more files they became corrupted |

I bought two of the 16GB ones (one for the wife) off of Amazon. They came with a translucent rubber sheath rather than the bag.
It doesn't say on the linked page, but it will take up to another 4gb via the sd slot and DOES NOT support sdhc, according to the Amazon page.
I love the fact that it's hackable. I've already added a new background and replaced the ugly default icons.
The only complaint I have is that I can't find a hard-shell case and the buttons are wrong for any iPod cases.
The Amazon page I'm referring to is
NEW 16gb 3" TFT Touchscreen Mp3 / Mp4 / Mp5 Player (Plays Avi/rm/rmvb/flv Without Conversion)
in case you want to read some reviews. |

Hi GeneralMayhem,
Do you know what chipset your player is?
It will give you a hint by looking at the firmware version on your player.
I would be interested to know what chipset it's running. |

System information says "Product name: RK2706" I read on the Amazon page that it's a Rockchip-based, which makes sense.
Let me know if you'd like any detailed pictures and I'll throw some up.
Here's a video for the one I have. I've already hacked it and changed the ugly icons.

I need to modify one of the icons and I'll post the version of my firmware when I get a chance.
Might take a few days, but I'll get it done. |
