Review of my MP4

I got this:

yesterday and after figuring out the fact that it is a Rockchip (and therefore requires avi converter - thanks heaps to this site Very Happy

) I've converted and dumped heaps of videos and MP3s onto it.

It has the correct memory as stated: 2GB onboard + 1GB SD card.

It doesn't recognise AMV, WMV, MOV, MPG, MPEG, MP4.

The screen is on a slight angle, but the clarity is very good. I can read subtitles on AVI's. The viewing ange is a bit weird, kinda need to have it on an angle to get good contrast.

It has a 3.5mm stereo jack so I can use my Sennheiser headphones with it, but the charger has a power adapter with vertical power pins so it will need an adapter for Australian mains.

MP3 playback is exceptional when the bit rate is at 128kbps and above. Below this and you get a clicking sound, but most of my MP3s are 128kbps and above.

FM radio doesn't have a setting for Australia, but here in an office full of networking gear it seems ok.

There is a slide switch at the base which I was hoping was a "hold" switch, but it seems to turn the unit off, but only sometimes Question

Overall I'm happy with it and will be kinda reluctant to hand it over as a Christmas pressie on Monday, but I may buy one soonish!

Where did you get it from? And if it doesnt use amv, adn avi has to be converted, what format does it use?

Not really, but this is my first MP4 player, so maybe...

From eBaY - Flash-Items seller.
It plays AVI files, but you need the avi converter program to convert video using a specific codec.

I think it looks pretty good, like some new type of cellphone, stylish. Does the memory card go in all the way? Have you tried to play .ogg files on it?
Maybe an option to set contrast or backlight intensity, to get you at the right angle to the screen again? I have that with my pocket pc watching movies. When contrast or brightness ain't right, it looks better from an angle, but I can adjust it in the menu.
A cheap travel converter (just a piece of plastic with the right wall socket pins where you plug your adapter in) could help you to connect to ac.

The SD card slides in and "clicks" into place, just need to push it in and it "clicks" out again. It's not all that fast writing to the SD, but it's a no-name card and is probably pretty slow.

It doesn't recognise .ogg files.

You can set the backlight intensity and I've now got it turned up full and it helps.

I'm gonna head down to Jaycar after work tonight and pick up a converter, but I've just been charging it from the computer's USB.
