i bought a 4GB 2.2 in. mp4 player in Taiwan. I tried using the drivers and software which came with the player but none of them works. the sample works perfectly and has great sound quality. The video should be 320 x 240, but I still cannot play it after it is converted to that format. Can anyone help?

Danny, could you list the rest of the specs for the sample? In VLC I find them under information. Of particular note should be the type of audio and video codec, and the bitrates.

You may need to change the audio from mp3 to mp2, or you may need to change the video codec.

Also, my rockchip player came with an AMV converter. Not so helpful when you need AVI files, so check that as well

I can confirm that Xilisoft's "DVD to MP4 converter" works perfectly with both 220(224)x176 and 320x240 Rockchip MP4 players. I purchased this over the weekend and it's worth every $.
I was also able to succeed with the 'free-issue' AviConverter which came with each player once I worked out that I need to manually put .avi at the end of your filenames , but I REALLY like the flexibility that the Xilisoft software gives you.
For example, instead of coding each of the 4 or 5 VOB files individually one after the other (as with AviConverter), the Xilisoft DVD to MP4 software does it all in one go, straight from analysing the IFO's. It can convert straight from DVD - and it appears to work straight from an original DVD ( Region 2 - I cannot confirm this for other regions).

I know I am repeating what others have written above, but to confirm what has worked for me, I use the following settings:

For the 2" player (224x176) :

First, select 'XviD' as the Profile.
For Video Size, manually type "224x176" - on my version (4.0.83 build 0178) this size doesn't appear in the drop-down, but manually typing it as I have shown here, works.
Bit Rate - I have found that 512 works 100%.
Frame Rate - at 20FPS, the sound and video remain in sync. Higher FPS ratings result in a slightly smoother video, but the sound lags behind.
Aspect - Auto
Same Quality - False
Audio Codec - MP2 - Important Note! Although Rockchip players handle MP3 Music fantastically, the video audio must be encoded as MP2 it seems. Xilisost are one of the only ppl who seem to realise this!!
Bit Rate - 128 works for me everytime.
Sample Rate - 44100 - ditto!
Channels - Stereo
Disable Audio - False

For the 2.4" Rockchip players, do exactly as above, but select a video size of "320x240"

It's well worth trying this out before parting with your $$$, but for me, it has worked very well indeed.

i bought the player from a seller with the company DGS. I tried looking up their website and had no luck. I tried all the software recommended, but still no luck. Here are more specs though:

First of all it looks much like an iPod except that the screen is twice as tall and there is no scroll wheel.

on the menu screen, there are nine icons in the following order: Music; Video; FM radio; Photo; Text Reader; Recorder; Memory Navigator; Games; Settings.
it connects via USB
headphone jack uses 2.5mm

In fact this program you suggest do nicely the job as a front end of Mencoder, but it fails is the most tricky requirement of Rockchip video player as it is convert audio to mp2

What screen size is your player?
In the first post you said "The video should be 320 x 240"
but later posted the "sample video specs:
resolution: 220x176 "

Does the sample video play?

If the sample does play then try using aviconverter and set the resolution to 220x176 not 320x320

Hmm, don't quote me on this, but if your player is like the one you've linked to, then I suspect it might not be a Rockchip player. I could be wrong - what makes you think it is a Rockchip and not an AMV 'Action' type player?? I am curious; it's a nice looking player, but I always thought this type was AMV only.

Maybe you could look at the extension on the file that works? I know it sounds like a basic question, but you are our eyes on this one

The screen size is 2.2 inch, but it says that it can play both 320x240 and 220x176.
i tried using both formats but none worked.
actually im not so sure about the instruction manual. it told me those specs, but actually the sample movie was 176x220, not 220x176(sorry about that).
when i hook it up to my computer for the first time, the new hardware notifications say that it is a Rockchip USB device.
It doesn't look exactly like that picture, like the buttons are the same color as the casing and it also has a speaker on the back panel.

The extension of the sample movie that works is Xvid (.avi). anything else that goes on does not work. I tried the AMV converter and those videos don't work either.

Danny, because your computer recognised it as Rockchip, then perhaps I was wrong!! Sorry about that!! Anyway, in my experience with Rockchip players, they need the movie to be in exactly the right format, with not even one pixel extra on the "X x Y" settings for the movie size. If your demo movie is 176x220, then perhaps try and encode a movie at that size. I cannot remember if Aviconverter gives that size as an option, but I have found Xilisofts DVD to MP4 converter to work perfectly. It's quite pricey, but you can download a demo version which should let you test things out, and I know you'll be able to type "176x220" in the Video Size option.

some points here for you:
1. If you screen is 2.2 then you can't play 320x240, it must be 224x176 or 176x220...
2. You say that your videos are 176x220 then your screen handles videos turned 270°... have no sense to convert a video to 176x220 WITHOUT turning it -90° or 270° whatever option.
3. To solve your problem you have to use a special version of AVIconverter here; AVIConverter turned
I think this will work fine for you.
No other converter turns -90° and handles mp2, only this one.
