Open the player, search for the PCB ID (white text somewhere in the board)
Post them here, only with that you can search compatible firmware.

Also, ¿can you post the NAND-flash part number? I suspect that your player is not 8Gb...

first, follow the DEAD RECOVERY GUIDE, which is one of the first posts at this forum, when you do the short circuit your pc will recognize mp4 as USB Device, then follow the guide. Drivers and programs needed may be or may be not in your mp4 cd. Check for MP3 Player Product Tool, if you have that one, install it, now you should have ADFU Driver inside the directory where MP3 Player Product Tool was installed.

You will need a display driver for your screen.

What is the part number?

Here is the manufacturer of all the BKS* models:

http://www.bkeestar.com/

"Shenzhen Surprising Venus High Technology Company"

You need to find the part number of the display. It is usually on the frame or the back. Posting pictures may help us identify it.

Do you understand the phrase "on the side of the screen"?

Check there. Also, behind the screen.
