I purchased this from a HK based vendor and was stung. Although at the price I paid it wasnt worth the effort to send it back. It should of had 4gb but only had 1gb when I used the HP format tool. Anyway the battery on this unit was poor, so I began to look for a replacement. I found this on ebay and purchased it with the base that if it didnt fit I could sell it on.


If you try this mod just connect the red and black wire the white wire does not need to be soldered into place just cover the end with a little tape to prevent a short.
I hope this help anyone with a battery dead player.

You can also just buy the original battery!

The Ipod nano battery is 370ma@3.7v which should last 60% longer than the 200ma@3.7v standard battery that was inside my mp4 so its worth consideration if you require longer play time between charges. I have also seen 400ma@3.7v these in theory would give 100% extra playtime over the standard replacement battery. but would cost about £5.00.

graylinghunter , i was wondering, the other time when i opened my player and measured the maximum allowable space for the battery. The ipod nano battery could not fit into it, it was too wide or long. How did you solve this problem? Or did it happen that the space in your player allowed the ipod nano battery?

The nano battery is a perfect snug fit. No room to spare but fits all the same I can post a pic if you want

I just put a 400mAH ipod battery on my nano clone and with it worked!

Have tried conecting a 400ma battery from maplin cost only £5 the battery apeasrs to work and charge however it wont fit in my player which is a 2g nano clone running 9.0.48. I am concidering cutting the board to fit the player in. The part of the board I plan to cut does not apear to have any function.

I'd be careful as you are dealing more than likely with a multi-layered board. So you may not see traces on the board but it could be layered between the board.

Cutting the board went well as it was not multi layered. The battery fitted in however it was obiously a tight squeeze as one of the screws that holds the front down punctured the battery. This resulted in a lot of heat but fortunatly no damage to the Player. The 400ma is proberbly to big for this player as cutting the board any further will damage the circuit.

I also replaced the battery in my chIpod with a new 400 mAh 3.7v battery I bought off of ebay. The install went well and it worked fine for about three weeks, until one day I picked up the player to use it and all of the buttons on the front were frozen. I looked at the case and it appeared that someone stepped on it, it was deformed. I took the back off and I found that the battery had balloned up. The increase in size caused the whole case to deform and put pressure on the front buttons making them inoperative. I contatced the seller in Hong Kong and he sent a new one ASAP. From what I have now learned this could be dangerous as the balloing is caused by gases building up in the battery. The cause?? No one really knows why, some specualte soldering problems, others say charging problems (ie cheap chargers sent with these cheap players), others think cheap batteries that have contamination in the cells during manufacturing. Bottom line- they can explode (go to youtube and search overcharged lithium polymer batteries)if overchaged and not designed to allow venting of the gases.

I have the new battery, but am very reluctant to install it. I think I will retire my chIpod after a full two months service, and bought an iriver clix instead. Sometimes its worth spending a little more money for a name brand. Anyway I just wanted everyone to be careful if you decide to replace the battery, if you do I would suggest buying a battery from a known seller!! and avoid Chinese cells!! Very low quality.

porrmans ipod , you were lucky! The balloning was caused by over-charging the battery.

Good batteries have a built-in protection circuit to cut off the power supply when 4.3V have been reached, and as well a mechanical vent to release excess pressure when over-charged.

Well, the cheaper alternatives might have the protection circuits, but probably lower quality. And they might not have the vent, and the oxygen built up causes the balloning. Plus excessive heat is also produced. Heat + Oxygen = Fire!

I guess it'll still be quite safe, as long as you don't leave your player charging longer than it is supposed to be.
