Hello fellow MPx owners,

I recently purchased an MP4 player from eBay/Hong Kong. It was fine when it arrived but I apparently ruined it through the firmware upgrade process. The player came with a mini cd with many files but only one file which I assumed would be a firmware update, but it appears I was wrong because that was the file that ruined my player. The name of that file is: nofm BO-25002-V003H-L12.fw

Fortunately I found this wonderful site and the resources have been amazing but my problem is that I don't know what kind of player I have. It doesn't have a model # or anything and the ridiculous excuse for a manual doesn't give me any other clues.

I opened the player, and hoped I could use the chip to identify it, but the battery is glued on top of it and I'm afraid to pull it off and ruin the player even more. I'm not sure if it'll help, but the battery has the following printed on it: SDL 042535AP(L) 3.7v 310mAh HF28

It was listed on eBay as a "Chocolate MP4 Player", but that doesn't seem to help me very much. I checked out the image gallery and only found 1 player under "chocolate" and that was similar, but there wasn't much information about that player or the type of firmware I should use for it.

You can check out a picture of it here:
http://i24.ebayimg.com/01/i/000/f1/67/435f_1_sbl.JPG

I can provide more pictures if you need them.

Any help identifying what I should be looking for, or better yet, a link to the firmware would be greatly appreciated!

Hello friend,
My name is GRo0vY and i am happy to help you =D
There are topics about indetifying your player posted...
What you will need to find a right firmware is Board ID:
http://s1mp3.org/en/docs_hwspecs.php#boardid
there you can find the basics about your mp3 so you can understand what we say Wink

The first thing you have to do be4 you start doing anything else :
Find out if your player is recognised by your computer.. and How? Nothing/Adfu device/Disk where you can put data
Then to continue... Try to format your player, reset your player (if there is a button for it)..
To identify your player components:
You have to OPEN your player. BE CAREFULL ! Especially the battery wires, USB connector and plastic cage is being demaged when repairing... ! If you have no idea how to open your player... Try to search youtube or just try it CAREFULLY... then let us know what it says inside =)

SEE you =)

Thank you so much Groovy. After checking out the site you recommended, I realized that after I opened it, I had no choice but to remove the adhesive holding the battery to make any progress.

Here is what I found:

the Board ID is:
BKS25018-V1
070518 0802

and the Nand Flash Memory is:
Hynix
HY27UU08AG5M

I'm not exactly sure what to do next.

Thanks for your help so far.

Also, I forgot to mention: When I connect it to my computer, I get a message stating: "You need to format the disk in drive G: before you can use it." I'm not sure if I should format it or not, so I just cancel it for now.

What should I do?

Thanks,
Danny

Hello,
Wow never seen such a number. Try to find a webpage of a brand the mp4 is from and search for FIRMWARE downloads.
Also try to use your firmware from the CD again. And remember all steps in DEAD recovery guide wich is here:
http://www.mympxplayer.org/dead-player-recovery-guide-vt567.html

Maybe you disconnected the player from PC after uploading software... you have to switch off and switch on and let it boot as you have to READ there !
It is possible that it is a wrong firmware but I think you just didn t follow the steps there... This is a firmware wich is Full and Dump in one... so dont worry... Also use s1fwx to identify the firmware and post the information here... download:
http://s1mp3.org/files/3rdpary_software/s1fwx_v30.7z

Lemme know =) GL

Hello again,

I found another MP3 player like the one I had but I don't know how to remove the firmware from it to use on my broken player. How do you remove firmware from the player if it is a 9.1.52?

This is the information about the good firmware for my player:
LSD_91N18V_A1
2007-09-05
9.1.52
2005-01-09

Once I have the firmware, I will try to install it on my broken player and hopefully fix it finally.

I will also try to upload the firmware to this site to help anyone else who may need it.

Thank you for your help,
Danny

Thank you s1fw, I appreciate the help, but it seems that particular firmware didn't work on my player. It turned on, but the screen remained white.

I found one on the s1fw site that was close, but the screen is pretty messed up.

Again, if anyone has any advice how to pull the firmware from the good player I have, I would appreciate it. It is a 9.1.52 and I have not found a way to copy those firmwares yet.

Thanks again,
Danny

Also, the firmware that almost worked was:

http://www.s1fw.com/Actions-AK102X/AK1025/BKS25018-V001-L12.html

In case that would help.
Thanks.

Hello drl213,
You know there is no reason why to erase a firmware on your mp4 you just have to rewrite it with the correct one...
There is one firmware that brings your player back to recovery mode if you want it... but dunno if it work for all players... Lemme know if you want it... not really needed i guess...
I have no idea how s1wf found out your player as ak1025 procesor, but if he is right, then try searching the download section here and anywhere else for the ak 1025 firmwares... As soon as your player is recognised as a DISK let me know and then you will have to find a dump fw to make it work =)

Good luck

Thanks again Grooy, your suggestion worked and I was able to extract a copy of the firmware...

...and it turns out that it is VERY close, but not the same.

All I get is the hourglass and it never changes or loads main screen (though the resolution is perfect.)

So I opened the new player and found that it's a newer version of my broken player.

So I am back to square 1. I need to find the firmware for :

LSD_91N18V_A1
2007-09-05
9.1.52
2005-01-09

Thanks again!

Try this here: http://www.s1fw.com/plus/download.php?open=0&aid=1049&cid=3 - You have to click on the "Download Address" link to get the file.

Hello Admin,

Thanks, but it seems that one won't work on mine. I tried it but all I got was a blank white screen.

I tried this one:
BKS25018-V001-L12

and it was very close, but the screen is pretty messed up and hard to read. When I extracted the firmware from my other player and tried it on my broken player, the screen looked perfect...but it didn't leave the loading screen and stayed stuck on the hourglass.

So basically I feel like I need a cross between the 2 firmwares since one makes the screen look good and the other seems to make my player work but I can barely read the screen.

Any suggestions? Anything else I should try?

Thanks again!
Danny
