ok, i got a mp3/mp4 ipod clone, with action chipset.

it was supposed to b 8gb the fomat utility that come with the mp3 players cd recognises it at 4gb. so reformatted it as 4gb loaded songs onto it and turned the computer off, leaving ipod clone to charge via usb overnight (as usb is allways live)

in the morning turned comp on, and went to get ready 4 work, come back and blue screen disc check was up (u kno the one. it comes up during boot to check hdd's), checking the ipod cloen (H drive on mine)

was finding alot of errors, anyway cut a long story shirt, computer was re-set during this, as had to leave 4 work.

ipod clone seemed to work fine, plays all mp3s fine. went to use format utility again tonight to re-format (quicker than manually deleting everything)

i run disk format utility, it sees H drive, and still says 4gb, i click start, and then click yes. then i get error msg says "Not support this type disk!"

it wont format anymore (mp3 utilites 4.10)

i run windows format (it regognises player as 8gb still) i click format, it works.

player back to false 8gb

try to use mp3 utilities format and still wont do it ?

player works, can still transfer songs onto it up to 4gb (then get too full errors) songs play fine etc.

just cant get utilites to reformat to 4gb.

any ideas, did the wondows disk check utility at start up stuff the mem chip?

hmm.. just fu**'ed it some more, i just cant leave things alone.

tried top finx above problem. in disk format utility, clicked partition tab
slid slider all way to the right. clicked start format/partition worked.

re-did it, but put slider all the way back to the left, (0mb partition) clicked start, worked.

now ipod clone at 945Mb. Embarassed

disk format utility now see it as 962Mb instead of 4gb

even wondows format sees it as 962Mb

instaed of 4gb.

excuse me while i go shoot myself Evil or Very Mad

somehow using that slider, reformatted the drive to FAT16 and reduced it to less than 1Gb

got paragon partition manager professional on to it and this is what came up

Logical Disk (H: )

Volume letter:
(H: )
File system:
FAT16
Root entries:
512
Sectors per boot:
1
Sectors per cluster:
32

Serial number:
2B802B8
Partition ID:
0x06 FAT16, greater than 32 MB.
Total size:
956.9 MB
Used space:
5.3 MB
Free space:
951.6 MB

formatting to FAT32 doesnt do anything either Sad just changes the sectors per boot and sectors per cluster number

i m guessing the memory "hack" used on players out of china is that good, it foodl windows into thinking its 8gb, fools mp3 player utilities into thninking its a 4gb. when it looks like its actually a 1gb.

maybe i'll try opening the f***er up to see what numberis on the chip so i can look it up and see what its really supposed to be

simmo2302 , that's something new. The format to 1GB was done using MP3 Utilities Disk Tool or another formatting software?

The best way though is to open and check the memory chip's serial number.

Why are clones called MP4 Players, when they don`t play .MP4 at all?
It`s like an MP3 Player which plays Music CDs only.

ok finally got round to opening it up

Samsung 713
K9G8GO8UOM
PCBO

ATJ2093H

YEA origionally came up as 8gb in windows.
1st window is mp3 utilities disk tool showed 4gb
went to 2nd window in mp3 utilities disk tool, partition/encryption i thinbk its called.

slid slider to right clicked go, then slid slider bak to left and clicked go and ended up with 1gb.

dont know if i had format setting in 1st window on full, low or quick though.

anyway tried updateing firmware as player got stuck on hourglass during boot. used wrong firmware only got black scrren now.

tried running tweesers along both side of memory chip and cant get it to reset so i can upload a different vesion of firmware.

so since this is now a dead player issue i'll continue my grievences there.

simmo2302 , the Samsung K9G8GO8UOM is a 8Gigabit (1GigaByte) memory chip, so the format to 1GB was correct.
