Wish I'd found this board before I bought this thing.

Anyway, I recently purchased a Glacier MP4 Player from UXcell and really like the player itself.

The problem is the battery charging. I can't seem to charge the player with either the AC adapter or the USB cable. I've left it charging for days on end, but still get the Low Power error as soon as I disconnect from the source.

I'd rather not return the thing all the way to Hong Kong (especially since it was shipped to me from New York) and pay almost as much for postage as I did for the player in the first place.

I noticed a lot of people have the same problem (obviously a bad batch somewhere -- cable, battery). Could anyone who's fixed the problem post the exact steps they took to rectify their situation?

Shelley , so basically your player functions normally while it is connected to the computer via USB?

And the moment you unplug the USB, the player shuts down because of low power?

Likely it would be a damaged battery or there is some problem with the charging circuit. Either way, it is a hardware problem.

Try contacting uxcell with your problem.

Shelley, slide the battery cover off the player. push the battery towards the contacts and see if that makes a difference. You can put a small strip of paper between the casing and the small side of the battery, opposite of the contacts, to get a better contact. Check the cable for bent or broken contacts.

Sounds like it could be a bad battery. But the stock batteries in this unit are cheaper noname versions of the real thing. Luckily, the real thing is pretty cheap to get on eBay, so if I were you, in any case, I'd get a proper Nokia Bl-4C (look for the proper packaging in the eBay seller's ad). Even if it isn't the battery, a second battery is essential to getting the most out of this player.

Sorry to hear you are having problems charging your player.

Have your tried plugging your player into another USB port on your computer? It's best to charge it directly into the USB on your computer and not go through a USB hub or similiar.

Try that and see if that makes any difference.

If it's still a problem, you can private message the user "UXCELL" directly from this site and they can sort out the problem for you. They are UXcell themselves and have a logon to our site to deal with problems relating to their products.

Thanks to everyone for their helpful suggestions. I tried them all to no avail.

I contacted UXcell and they're going to send me another battery. Hopefully, that will fix it because I really like the player and everything works normally except for the charging.

Have you tried using a USB cable other than what was sent from UXCELL? Not sure if the Glacier uses the mini-usb or not but on mine I thought it bit the dust after a week; then I thought to try the cable that came with my digital camera and it worked like a charm.

A couple of hours at most. Tried the usb charger too here, wouldn't charge, but charged okay with the usb cable of the computer. Later it charged okay off ac adapter too, Strange, but try that, computer charging first, later use the ac adapter. Leave the on/off switch to on always.

but ,the problem come from the battery ;it doesn't charge in usb and with the adapter,she's dead ,i'm very disapointed
in france a battery like this (bl-4c) cost 30€ ,it's the price of the player lol

conclusion ,the fisrt time and the last time ,i order to uxcell
i order a glacier 2gb and a mp4 watch ,and i receive only the glacier witch doesn't work

my nokia phone battery (bl-5c) works but i can't put the protection ,is there a solution to this problem

I bought 2x bl-4c batteries, 1900 mAh, at €2,- a piece off ebay. Even standard official Nokia bl-4c's are a couple of euros there. Check it, postage was more expensive than the batteries for me, total was €12,- for 2 batteries delivered, from a german ebay shop.
You might want to try if a small strip of paper under the battery (small side opposite of connectors) helps keeping good contact, if bad contacts are the case. Won't help a dead battery of course.
EDIT: if you send member Uxcell a personal message here on the forum, you will get a response. Send your order number with the complaint.

I'm afraid to say, I now have the same problem Shelley and I think a couple of others have had with the Glacier not charging after a short period of use. I assumed it was the battery, but now I'm not so sure. Here's the full story from the beginning:

I recently received a brand new original Nokia battery in sealed Nokia package (complete with hologram logo on front) from a seller on eBay, but it wouldn't work at all when I tried it in the Glacier. "No problem", I thought, "it must have gotten discharged from sitting around for a long time, I'll just charge it". So I charge it via AC charger for a few hours, that doesn't do anything, and a few more hours via USB didn't get the battery to charge at all. A reading showed 0 volts, while my Glacier battery was about 3.3v. But the original Glacier battery had been giving me low battery sign, so I charged it via the AC charger for a couple of hours. Then I found it turned off immediately, after issuing a "LOW POWER" warning! Obviously, the charger wasn't doing anything, and if anything, it seemed to have drained the battery. So I repeated this with a similar charger, same result. Then I tried charging the Glacier via the USB port for several hours. It read at 2.9 volts. I've been charging it via USB all day, kept checking it every few hours, no change, its still 2.9 volts!

I had complained to the eBay seller who sold me the genuine Nokia battery that was DOA, but now I'm not so sure any longer! It seems the problem might be the Glacier is not charging batteries any longer. I tried every thing I could think of, including sticking a paper at the opposite end to push the battery toward the contacts, including pulling the contacts out just a bit to make more even contact with the battery contacts, making sure the on/off switch was at on, trying the USB cable in different USB ports, nothing works. Despite the Glacier battery being 2.9v, its as dead as the other one, it won't turn the player on. (The player only comes on when connected to USB or AC).

What makes it more troublesome is that I was getting set to order another Glacier for my girlfriend before the 31st (which is when my 10% off coupon expires...), and now I find I have to back off on that again, until I find out what's up with this charging thing, namely if it is an inherent problem with all the latest batch of Glaciers. (I had already hesitated about getting another Glacier due to the USB problems I was having with mine but felt they were surmountable).

I would rather have reliability problems with my own players than buy a player for my GF with her money, and have her facing a bunch of problems with it, that I am indirectly responsible for, having advised her toward the Glacier in the first place. (We agonized for weeks over whether to get a Glacier or a good solid reliable name brand mp3 player, and the Glacier won out due to its excellent physical and technical design, and primarily its use of a cheap, widely available and easily user-replacable Nokia phone battery).

Hey, after about 3 hours of just messing with my poor, dead Glacier i found go around to get your glaciers to charge....look in the Uxcell General discussions for my post on how to do it!
