has anyone had luck in convertting their AMV files into smaller size.... a 120 Minute video come out to 450 Megs!!!!!!!

i was readding where someone was able to get their AMV's to shrink down..... supposedly the format supports compression Sad this file size is rediculous.... it's bigger than the source file with the resolution dramatically reduced

Hi ironslave,

That does seem a little large the longest video I have converted was 2 hours 43 minutes and that ended up 358 mb. Most generally come out between 180 to 250 mb fo 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 hours.

That is at 128x96 Frame rate high, image quality high focus mode0.

I convert all to .avi and crop and resize before conversion using VirtualDub or PockrtDivxEncoder.

I us either VirtualDub http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/
Some info on using VirtualDub http://www.s1mp3.org/wiki/index.php/Video_encoding

Or PocketDivXEncoderhttp://divx.ppccool.com/page.php?pg_id=11
Some info on using PocketDiv http://www.misticriver.net/archive/index.php/t-20120.html

Both freeware

When it comes to sizing rule of thumb I reduce height to whatever it takes to remove black bands from top and bottom, divide the resulting height by 3 then multiply that by four to give me the width (eg: 200Wx150H) this gives me a 4:3 aspect ratio. I also up the volume setting between 30 to 40 % which gives better sound in finished product.

Encoding with AMV Converter I use 128x96 for size Frame Rate and Image quality high and Focus mode0 will centre the image perfectly.
Although 128x128 may give you a full screen picture, because it is square the small amount you gain in height will be lost in width as too much gets cropped off the sides.

Hope this helps

hmm I encoded one of my DVD's to 128x96 and I could hardly see what was going on, perhaps it was because I was using mp3 utils 3.57. Anyway I switched to 3.68 and put it to 128x128 and it looks fine to me, as long as in pocket divx encoder the output format is 128x128 all should be peachy. I used mode2 by the way, not sure what difference it makes as it takes me a while to convert and I am tired of watching the same start to test it out

oh and the DVD was 1hr50 and it came up 249MB

hey fizzle
the Focus is as follows

focus Mode0: video is stretched to fit screen.....the original is picture displayed on the "preview screen"

focus Mode1: video is stretched to fit screen..... but the result picture is also displayed on the "preview screen"

focus Mode2: video is formatted to fit the screen by cropping.....the original is picture displayed on the "preview screen"

focus Mode3: video is formatted to fit the screen by cropping..... but the result picture is also displayed on the "preview screen"

i also managed to get my video size down to 244 Megs.... once i figured out how to use the program better..... i clipped off the end credits and intro credits....saved me 9 minutes...

medium FPS, high image quality, and 124x96 because in modes 0-1 it looks weird cause the screens all squished and modes 2-3 to much of the screen was clipped on the sides. i will have to use a video editor to fix the vid... cause the quality sucks and high FPS makes the video jumpy....

that was a result of 111 minutes (1 hr 51 Minutes) of video in Divx avi from widescreen format of 624x400, 29 FPS

so i got the issue fixed somewhere............ ?

I converted "Shark Tale" which was a full 700MB DivX movie to .AMV and the file turned out to be only 198MB at 128x96 resolution.

For best results, it's best to convert your movie to the same resolution size as the resulting .AMV file BEFOREHAND - before you convert it to .AMV using the Convert Tool.

I think it is just a matter of trial and error until you find a process and end product that suits you. My conversion of Shark Tail ended up at 179MB at the same settings as Binh.

gieten

I can host it here.
However, Upload speeds in New Zealand is terrible. I'm lucky to get 256Kb/sec upload! Sad It'll probably take me all day to upload it, provided I don't get cut off as well......

I don't tend to encode movies because it's too hard to watch on the 1.5" screens. Music videos are great so if you don't feel like watching it, you can listen to the music instead.....

Does anyone else want the 198MB Shark Tale's file?
