To check the board layout if it has the wolfson chip, tried to open the player, removed the two screws on the front but it wouldn't lift over the earphone socket, oh well might try another time, I don't want to risk breaking it too soon, it sounds so good!

That would be great... this friend of mine is an importer and will bring me a player just for try it Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy ... it would be nice to broke it.

We've discovered that this new RK2706 aren't using Wolfson decoders when the machine has a SD slot (!!!???)... for instance Teclast T50 does have Wolfson but no SD slot. The other case I know is Ramos RM965... which is in the inverse.

If I'm not wrong makd511 discovered this

The fact that some players don't have the nice added Wolfson CODEC is probably either a case of cost or space. The Micro SD card slot does take up physical space and does add some cost to the players Bill Of Materials. I don't think that this is a limitation of the Rockchip 2706.

probably you're right!!!

Actually that was the explanation given by makd511 here

There is not a limitation of RK2706 as it can work with both... the thing is that we haven't been able to find a device with such configuration.

Now here is an interesting twist to this story.

I have installed this firmware which is from a identical player:-
http://www.mympxplayer.org/rockchip-firmware-mp5-rk2706-version-219-mon-aug-04-2008-217-pm-df895.html

And it booted up ok with a completely different version! Shocked

One snag though is that the menu button and the backwards and forwards buttons are not recognised, the play/pause, startup/shutdown button does work however and this firmware fixed one of the bugs, the annoying buzz.

The upshot of this is the screen display is perfect and I can play music fine and there is some improvement to the firmware, but I can't navigate to change any settings. Embarassed

well thats a pain in the but

just goes to show again, they may look the same but we are still in the same boat as before .. many different factories building the same player with different configs

big pain in the butsky, even when i asked tinydeal if they got all their players from the same factory they replied no, several factories for player that even look the same, so even if you bought it from tinydeal there is no garantee they will be the same

BTW - got some new tools for modding, a tool for changing all the text on the player - am uploading it for all to use - kind of experimental, but can select a language and edit it to bigger or smaller strings

also found out with enhanced image tool that you can replace an image with a smaller or bigger one, even get rid of an image by replacing it with a 1x1px image in the transparent color - gone - will upload also

cheers

It's not too bad this time round, we can at least back up the firmware, that's a major step forward.
I just went back to the original firmware.

thanks for sharing the tools.
I uploaded a font tool, that's kinda experimental too, the fonts do get a bit out of line with fonts from some players, but it is still usable.

another thing i forgot to mention

the s:flo has just got an new firmware with several new video formats (asf, 3gp etc) and this is also being aplied to other new rockchip players and also it has NES, GBC/GB sms game emulation also that i think alos will be applied to other rockchip player firmware

thing is, will the newer batches of players coming out from the likes of tinydeal always get a later version of the firmware, or similar players etc

we will have to wait and see, but this chip is still fluxuating so much in terms of what it can and cant do

so the more firmwares we get from these players and similar ones to the ones we have then we can start to see how much we can chop and change about

just wait for admin to OK the download and edit away

work with the STRING.BN file, select your language and change or delete the text

The New Rockchip players are not as Unbrickable as I thought. Shocked

Sadly it seems my association with Rk27xx new rockchip players has now come to an end and I have now "BRICKED" my player for good I think. Crying or Very sad

Experimenting with firmware I now have a non-working set of firmware folders on the hidden partition, but the 60Mb firmware partition has now closed permanently and all I have is a white screen

Rkusb.tag will no longer open it and I can now only access the main player memory.

I have also tried teclast.sys, holding down the menu button while connecting the USB and the Rockchip official upgrade tool (RK27Upgrade.exe) can't find it, even opened the player to try the tweezers trick to unhide the 60Mb partition, but no dice.Embarassed

I am now looking at what windows partitioning tools will work on USB drives to try and Unhide the 60Mb area. Rolling Eyes

All I need to do is get the hidden firmware partition open so I can remove the non-working firmware and copy back my original, I am now open to suggestions? Idea

right

there is a new tool called RK27DM

now visit this link and try the routines in there, i know you do not have the rkw file, but if you let all the instuctions run and load the S:flo firmware, what this tool does is repartition the drive, once it has done that maybe you can get back into the palyer and put in your original drivers

when running this too it will ask for some new rk drivers that alow access to this partition

worth a shot
http://www.mp4nation.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=4840

i would just follow all the instructions here and see if you can at leats get the partition back and recognised

also, if you get one of the compiled firmwares, any maybe will do, and rename it to setup.rkw, it may also help it tkick back in

just a thought

Thanks for help makd.

But I think I may be the first person to successfully brick one of these.

Tried the RK27DM, loaded up the .rkw, I would have expected it to work, but the "R" button didn't become active and I was not asked for drivers, so it's like the 60Mb partition don't exist.

Also tried copying setup.rkw to the main memory also no luck.

I loaded up "Partition Manager" on my PC got the main USB partition but no sign of the 60Mb one hidden or otherwise, looks bad.
